KO likes it! Haha! For real! KO loves the cheez and NKOTB deliver it easily in
a perfect-for-summer pop song only a real fool could appreciate! Yay! No joke,
the first time I heard this song I knew it was New Kids. I'm not proud, mind you,
I just feel you all deserve full disclosure
. You really have to want to watch this vid,
and I can't honestly suggest you should...but for those of you (and you know who

Katy Perry, a rising star/singer outta London, has a very catchy song with
the chorus "I kissed a girl and I liked it!" We noted it the first time we heard it, yes. But
we're singing it tonight after hearing it only for a second time hours ago. Catchy indeed!
"I kissed a girl and I liked it," Perry* proudly proclaims pop-musically. Ha. And, well, yes,
KO, too, has kissed a girl and liked it! Truthfully, we love kissing! And photos are our
favorite form of forever...and KO has kissed a girl on film for fun and loved it! Yay Pop!caf%20ko%20carries%20kiss.jpgAnd even though we are ages above the amusing anecdotes
of simply kissing a girl and liking it, we find it impossible not
to hum along to the song, adoring and admittedly amused by it.
"I kissed a girl and I liked it!" Ha! KO knows & can appreciate kissing!b%20and%20k%20k1.jpgAnd above all else, ultimately, love!

*also, KO loves that she is a K A T Y Katy. Of course!

So my rocker friend drummer Pete came into town recently (yay!), and
while I was justifiably overwhelmed with tragic, obvs pervasive issues,
I still couldn't not at least pay a fleeting visit to him while he was getting
good and warmed up to his home town with old school bf Bugsy. It's
ridiculous how long the three of us have partied
...it's silly how reserved
and sane we were
for our fleeting reunion this time. Hatebreed at Toad's
in December was, in comparison, hardcore and blessed havoc
...you know,
if you were to compare
...More details about Pete's show soon, to be sure..b%20and%20pm.jpgko%20and%20b%20a08.jpgko%20and%20pete2.jpgLove you Pete!pete%20and%20ko%20a08.jpgb%20and%20pm2.jpgPete MacNeil, Bugsy & KO, April 08

You guys, New Kids On The Block are so totally reuniting! This shot, below, is
the first group picture taken of them in, like, 15 years! OMG! We were totally into
Joey back in the day. What a cutie-patootie! Of course now they all look a bit, er, older,
but we tots believe they can still sing and dance! They've got the Right Stuff, baby! And
you know what else? Way back when, we actually saw them in concert* with our friend BP
at the now-demolished New Haven Coliseum. For serio my friends! The mind boggles...nkotb%20reunion.jpg

"This is about us all. Every one of us. Who all seem to know deep down that
it's incredibly hard to be alive and interact with the world around us but will try
and cover it up at any cost. For as badass and unaffected as we try to come off,
we're all just one sentence away from being brought to the edge of tears, if only
it was worded right. And I don't want to act immune to that anymore. I took the
biggest detour from myself over the past year, since I decided that I wasn't going
to care about what people thought about me. I got to the point where I had so much padding on that, sure, I couldn't feel the negativity, but that's because I couldn't
feel much of anything. And I think I'm done with that."

In the new issue of Penthouse Magazine (classy) Kid Rock takes aim at a certain American actor who is against the war. It doesn't take a damn brain surgeon to figure out he's talking about Sean Penn.

Kid Pebble said, "These kids [U.S. soldiers] are very young and a lot of them think people who oppose the war are against them. You have to be very careful with what you talk about - especially when you are some Hollywood fucker. Just because you made a great movie doesn't make you are an expert on foreign policy."

"I was at the White House drinking a Beam and Coke, shooting the shit with Rumsfeld, when [President] Bush came by and gave me five like we were on Seven Mile and Van Dyke in Detroit."

"If it weren't for guns and people who know how to use them in America, we'd all be sitting around with swastikas saying, 'Heil Hitler!' "

It's funny, because he says that Sean Penn isn't an expert on foreign policy, but he thinks he is? And it's not like this country deafeated the damn Nazis. Ugh, he's such a moron.

lilo%20and%20daddy.jpgLiLo has been detoxing in rehab for over a month, her third rehab
stint this year...She recently met up with her Daddy after almost two
years of estrangement. We recently went running and her very revealing
song Confessions of a Broken Heart came up on our ipod (yes because we
are that cheesy)
and we were struck by how transparent her issues were even
then (the song was released, I think, 2 or more years ago? anyone? no? just me?).
It's funny in a sad way that LiLo probably didn't even comprehend her pain, and yet
she'd already mastered the media circus enough to pedal her pain...
What's worse~
and we should be embarrassed about this!~ the tortured teen in me totally relates!

Below, the LiLo-directed video for Confessions of a Broken Heart:

We were just saying to RobZ a few weeks ago how much we thought
that teen summer 07 anthem The Great Escape by the lamely named band
Boys Like Girls
should be recorded acoustically, and well, while no one
has heeded our genius and/or acted on our advice, we still felt strangely compelled
to acknowledge the end of a wild but wearying summer with a nod to their video.
And, then, somehow we found this uber-mellow song of the same name and
decided to share. Thoughts? Here's Patrick Watson singing Great Escape:

Queens of the Stone Age Team Up With
Celeb Chef Anthony Bourdain For Weirdest Holiday Special Ever

If you are Anthony Bourdain, the punk-rock-loving world-renowned chef and star of the hit Travel Channel show No Reservations, sometimes you find yourself in Berlin boozing with Queens of the Stone Age. As the cocktails flow, the conversation morphs from the Ramones to kitsch, and before you know it you're talking about super-cheesy Christmas variety-show specials in the Bing Crosby-hosts-David Bowie tradition. The result? Last week QOTSA played "Silver Bells" (renamed "Turkey Bells") for a holiday-themed episode of No Reservations. "We just got a call saying, 'Hey, we have a weird idea,'" frontman Josh Homme told us. "So when people come to us with that sort of a statement we are all ears."coolest%20ever%20homme%20and%20bourdain.jpgHere's the plot: While Bourdain cooks a traditional holiday feast at his Connecticut home, the Queens are rocking tracks including "Sick, Sick, Sick," "3's & 7's" and "Make It Wit Chu" at an ungodly volume in the basement rec room. When the band emerges, they're sporting appalling Christmas sweaters. "QVC graciously sent us the worst sweaters of all time," Homme explains. "I think someone Googled the word 'horrible' and that's how we found them." Bourdain, ever the arbiter of good taste, hasn't recovered: "Those Christmas sweaters were just the most terrifying things I've ever seen in my life. Beyond Sandra Lee on some really awful hallucinogen."
While Homme and Bourdain aren't giving up the whole story, they revealed the episode will involve karaoke, surly adolescents and a Japanese businessman. "It's a traditional Thanksgiving/Christmas meal with turkey, all the trimmings, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie ... some Christmas carols ... and a vicious brother-on-brother knife fight," Bourdain said. "We spent a fair amount of time spraying stage blood onto my niece and nephew's face. What's a holiday special without violent mayhem? I think it's an honest reflection of the holiday season."
Though Homme is slightly worried the band has ruined "ten years of credibility" by participating in this holiday nightmare, it was worth it: "Most of the time, if you tried to suggest that we get into sweaters like that we would probably just drink you under the table and leave you for dead, but this is a special case. That bastard. I'll never forgive him and I'll never forget him."

britneyspears%20ass%20.jpgWe never thought we'd agree with Kanye West about anything, but there's a
reason people say never say never! Surprisingly, Kanye called it the same way
we did yesterday
~ maybe more succinctly and dramatically (we don't think it's the
"end" of her career, just a low point)~ when he was interviewed by NY's Z100 today:

"[MTV] they exploited Britney in helping to end her career. When Britney was opening, near the end, I felt so bad for her. I said, 'Man, it's a dirty game. This game will chew you up and spit you out.'" -Kanye West, NY's Z100

*********
BWE also took a note from our approach to Brit-Brit's VMA performance.

They said:
Upon watching Britney Spears' VMA performance for the 1000th time today, something became very clear: The problem wasn't so much that the dancing was that terrible... just that it was a little slow, a little lazy, a little "Hot Summer Day in Atlanta". Which, thanks to the miracle of computer technology thingies, we were able to do on our own.
And you know? When you watch her dancing on double time, the performance looks pretty awesome!! And don't worry about her lips not matching the words -- no amount of technology or practice can help that.

We said:
We like Britney's new single, "Gimme More" and though
she seemed to be in slow motion during the VMAs last night,
We say Give her a break!
MTV has been using her for $$$$$$$$$$$ and viewership
(hello?! would anyone under 16 have cared about the VMAs if
she hadn't been scheduled to open?! and is anyone talking about
anyone else???!!!)
for just under a decade!

We like distractions probably more than most, but we also can't NOT
get serious about the way our world is depicted in the media...Especially now...

***************************************************
Tragedy's Legacy
Six years of 9/11 as a license to kill

It evokes a tragedy that marks an epoch. From the outset, the warfare state has exploited "9/11," a label at once too facile and too laden with historic weight -- giving further power to the tacit political axiom that perception is reality.

Often it seems that media coverage is all about perception, especially when the underlying agendas are wired into huge profits and geopolitical leverage. If you associate a Big Mac or a Whopper with a happy meal or some other kind of great time, you're more likely to buy it. If you connect 9/11 with a need for taking military action and curtailing civil liberties, you're more likely to buy what the purveyors of war and authoritarian government have been selling for the past half-dozen years.

"Sept. 11 changed everything" became a sudden cliché in news media. Words are supposed to mean something, and those words were - and are - preposterous. They speak of a USA enthralled with itself while reducing the rest of the world (its oceans and valleys and mountains and peoples) to little more than an extensive mirror to help us reflect on our centrality to the world. In an individual, we call that narcissism. In the nexus of media and politics, all too often, it's called "patriotism."

What happened on Sept. 11, 2001, was extraordinary and horrible by any measure. And certainly a crime against humanity. At the same time, it was a grisly addition to a history of human experience that has often included many thousands killed, en masse, by inhuman human choice. It is simply and complexly a factual matter that the U.S. government has participated in outright mass murders directly - in, for example, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Panama, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iraq - and less directly, through aid to armies terrorizing civilians in Nicaragua, Angola, East Timor and many other countries.

The news media claim to be providing context. But whose? Overall, the context of Uncle Sam in the more perverse and narcissistic aspects of his policy personality. The hypocrisies of claims about moral precepts and universal principles go beyond the mere insistence that some others "do as we say, not as we do." What gets said, repeated and forgotten sets up kaleidoscope patterns that can be adjusted to serve the self-centered mega-institutions reliably fixated on maintaining their own dominance.

Media manifestations of these patterns are frequently a mess of contradictions so extreme that they can only be held together with the power of ownership, advertising and underwriting structures - along with notable assists from government agencies that dispense regulatory favors and myriad pressure to serve what might today be called a military-industrial-media complex. Our contact with the world is filtered through the mesh of mass media to such a great extent that the mesh itself becomes the fabric of power.

The most repetitious lessons of 9/11 -- received and propagated by the vast preponderance of U.S. news media -- have to do with the terribly asymmetrical importance of grief and of moral responsibility. Our nation is so righteous that we are trained to ask for whom the bell tolls. Rendered as implicitly divisible, humanity is fractionated as seen through red-white-and-blue windows on the world.

Posing outside cycles of violence and victims who victimize, the dominant vision of Pax Americana has no more use now than it did six years ago for W.H. Auden's observation: "Those to whom evil is done / Do evil in return."

We ought to know. But we Americans are too smart for that.

The U.S. media tell us so.

ends
, and no one seems to care enough about her to help her~ though they
all seem altogether scarily too quick and proud to pounce on her in judgment,
now that they have years of her money in their own bank accounts!
~ with love,
unconditional honest love. She is NOT "fat" by any standards other than the oh-so-
whack and warped standards of LA/the media/the fashion industry
, even if, yes, she is
heavier than she was when she was a trained moneymaker for all her enablers
...We think bsbs2.jpgthe girl just needs a few real moments, and a few real friends. She needs a few selfless
(aka not milking her money tree or enabling her pain) friends and family members, and
a few genuine, good, clean moments of clarity. Whether that will ever happen is a whole
different issue: she needs to realize her actions have repercussions, and she needs to
realize it's no longer about her 100% anymore. She chose to have kids...2, in fact!
We hope she works through the pain and sadness she so obviously suffers with each
day of her life. She has to reconcile her own sorrow and recognize her own choices.
Either way,
We love you britney!
And we'd help you get healthy, happy and...yes, hip, too! For free!
