Movies

This clip is at once hilarious, obscene, indicative of LA egos, inexcusable and ridiculous...Oh, and it's disappointing...because no matter how unprofessional the DP was (and he was!) there's no forgiving a rant like that...Bale might've gotten away with a 30second tantrum but 35plus f-bombs in 4 minutes is insane. And it's not the actor's job to rip the DP a new one. The director (McG) or a producer should've done that- privately, I might add...Anyway, I love this audio, but I'm bummed to discover that Bale's got a wee bit of a terrorizing temper!!! Obviously it's NSFW or kids.

Brolin on Leno tonight: "I was working on another movie...it was ,uh? Oh it was
The Dead Girl
! And two days in I got the call that I got No Country for Old Men."

And re: his notoriety and mindset as he was midair during his motorcycle accident
on his way to a Dead Girl wardrobe fitting, "I really wanted to work with the Coens!"
And: "Hey it's the guy from The Goonies! Ahh, thank God for No Country..."

The Dead Girl was a sad movie but such a great working experience!!!

Sorry to put it this way, but KO can't seem to find the words, so...
we are letting Michael K from DListed do the dirty work for us regarding
Drew's breakup from CT native Justin Long. We thought this one would stick,
as they say, and we aren't capable (in this capacity) of the kind of profanity that
so appropriately adds comedic relief to such a significant (to KO...yes, I know..)
celeb-relationship-conclusion as, er, important (oh we mentioned it mattered?
and yes it does to KO, somehow, for epic reasons)
as this...Prepare for profanity:db%20jl%20bu1%20vdl.jpgdb%20jl%20bu2%20vdl.jpgsource: DListed

Legendary comic George Carlin died of heart failure yesterday in Santa Monica.
George had a history of heart problems. He checked into the hospital yesterday
after complaining about chest pains.
Shit! Piss! Fuck! Cunt! Cocksucker! Motherfucker! Tits!
Sad! George Carlin was "especially noted for his political and black humor and
his observations on language, psychology, and religion along with many taboo
subjects. Carlin and his "Seven Dirty Words" comedy routine were central to the
1978 U.S. Supreme Court case F.C.C. v. Pacifica Foundation, in which a narrow 5-4
decision by the justices affirmed the government's right to regulate Carlin's act on
the public airwaves. He placed second on the Comedy Central's list of the 10 greatest
stand-up comedians, ahead of Lenny Bruce and behind Richard Pryor. He was a
frequent performer and guest host on The Tonight Show during the three-decade
Johnny Carson era, and was the first person to host Saturday Night Live."gc%20rip.jpgHe is survived by his second wife Sally Wade and his daughter Kelly Carlin.gc%20rip2.jpgRIP George!

isa3.jpg"I loved modeling. I absolutely loved it. I was so happy to get the cover of
Vogue- 23 times. I keep each copy. I made more money as a model than as an
actress or a filmmaker. In monetary terms, beauty pays more than anything."
Isabella Rossellini, NYTmag 4.20.08

KO has always believed in the power of beauty! To read such a "secret" truth
from such a serious/respected beauty...what a bizarre and bewildering satisfaction
and admittedly amusing sensation...We've known for too long the truth in the power
of beauty. We've struggled with such a sad truth to be sure...

Well, to add to the power of such a "thank you for finally just admitting it" comment
by the lovely Isabella, KO has a story about her! KO met Isabella back in 2003 whilst
working on the Merchant Ivory film Heights. We still have the shoes she wore in her
scenes with John Light! Isabella, like KO, wears the rarely found size 9 & 1/2!

Ok, and there's more!

Truth be told, Isabella's quote rings true to a treatment KO wrote back
in film school at UT in Austin called Blows Revisited. A most memorable
quote from my script?
"It's all about being beautiful, that's our only job."
"This coming from a woman who considers herself a professional?"
"Everything you do is, of course, relevant to you, but nothing has more worth
than your looks."
"How can you say that? I'm offended."
"That's because you aren't protected, because you have fewer choices, you have
to struggle, you aren't beautiful
."

Obviously I love Owen Wilson. You all know that. So, it should come as no
surprise that I went to see his new movie Drillbit Taylor Saturday night. By myself.
Yes, I went alone because I knew no one would go with me! That's how strong my love
is! Well, I thought it was funny. And sweet and silly. Mostly funny. I'd recommend it...drillbit%20poster.jpg...but! I know you guys want some objective insight, not my rose tinted review. So!
Check out the review from respected film review source, Ain'tItCool.com:

"If you go see DRILLBIT TAYLOR, you might notice that Edmond Dantes is given a co-story credit.

Edmond Dantes, you may or may not know, is John Hughes, '80s teen comedy demigod, and DRILLBIT TAYLOR was one of many treatments he wrote during his overall production deal with Paramount. Hughes was a machine when he was working at his peak. He came from the world of advertising before he was a filmmaker, and his time writing short fiction for NATIONAL LAMPOON really served him well when cranking out treatments and scripts for a production deal. I love that there are Hughes treatments that are still floating around out there, like little John Hughes seeds that haven't been planted yet. In this particular case, Seth Rogen and Kristofor Brown worked together to turn this Hughes idea into... something that pretty closely resembles second-tier John Hughes movies from back in the day.

And that is no insult, my friends. Not where I come from.

I don't think DRILLBIT works completely. But I don't think a lot of John Hughes films are perfect, either. That doesn't mean they are without charm or laughs. DRILLBIT gets a lot of goodwill from me because they found the right kids. They're not movie slick. They're real, and they've got a good sense of rapport. I'm mentioning this because it's going to be real important in the next review as well. Nate Hartley, Troy Gentile, and the strange and tiny David Dorfman all work really well as friends. Steven Brill has taken his fair share of critical shit for films like WITHOUT A PADDLE, LITTLE NICKY, or MR DEEDS, but I think he's got a knack with young actors. His first film, HEAVY WEIGHTS, had a lot of really good kid performances in it, and he does nice work with that lead trio in particular here.

The biggest problem with Owen Wilson films is the same problem that Jim Carrey films have these days: they're just too goddamn underwritten. You can't just rely on Owen Wilson's Owen Wilson-ness to carry the day every time. He can't make mediocre material great simply by being Owen Wilson. His very best performances, in films like THE DARJEELING LIMITED (it keeps growing on me the more I watch it) or THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS or... well... BOTTLE ROCKET... are because the material is there. The script is there. He has something to work with. Something to play. He can be lightning in a bottle doing comedy (THE WEDDING CRASHERS, ZOOLANDER) or he can be slow painful death (YOU, ME & DUPREE, SHANGHAI anything), but if you want greatness from him consistently, it starts with the script.

DRILLBIT sets him up as this great character who's going to blow through this high school... and instead, he's just sort of an amiable fuck-up until the mechanical third-act complications and the inevitable redemption. I wish the film had been as crazy as it feels like it wants to be, and less of a rigid formula exercise. In some ways, I blame the source material, bringing it all back to Hughes. The film's best moments, and there are a few, feel like a real Hughes film, not just a hollow homage. I just wish Rogen and Brown had felt free to subvert and bend the formula a little more and given the film its own identity, one that gave Owen and the uniformly good-but-underutilized adult cast (Leslie Mann, Danny McBride, Cedric Yarbrough, Ian Roberts, and the great Stephen Root deserve special mention) a little more to do."

ko%20and%20jonah%20kittybar.jpgFunny guy Jonah Hill hosted SNL tonight and for the most part
it was hilarious! The first hour was better than most SNL's in recent
history, for sure. And Jonah's material definitely started strong. He quite
successfully referenced past comedic greats (influences?) as he showcased
his own unique comedic strength. His opening monologue quickly became a
musical number~ a memorable, witty one to be sure! We felt like a proud mama!
You may recall (what is now officially back in the day...before he was "huge") when

Our friend and brilliant writer/first-time director JPS ko%20jps%20nyce.jpghas quite a storm in store! His very controversial (yet still-so-
little-seen)
film Chapter 27, about Mark David Chapman's now-
infamous-obsession-turned-deadly assassination of John Lennon,
is finally going to be released
(limited, of course) in the States! We are
thrilled for JPS
, because, as you may recall, we've seen the film, and yes!!!
we genuinely believe this film is a worthy, certainly sad, piece of history. JPS
doesn't glamorize or romanticize MDC's sickness. The film simply shows a very
real and gut-wrenching look at the last days the legendary Lennon lived

through the distorted, disturbed eyes of a man sick with an obsession...A man
who in an instant murdered a dreamer and obliterated a dream shared universally.

All KO can say is: See the film before you dismiss it. We think this will (eventually)
become a cult classic. Actor Jared Leto challenges his range & the writing's superb.
Congratulations JPS! We are cheering you on, as ever!
And, we can IMAGINE!val%20jps%20and%20ko%20jps.jpgWe've long supported JPS and while we're a friend first and foremost,
we're a fan, fiercely!, because we love and respect his talent and strength.

Patrick Swayze, 55, has pancreatic cancer.
The actor's publicist released this statement Wednesday afternoon:
"Actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is
currently undergoing treatment. Patrick's physician Dr. George Fisher states,
'Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding
well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis
and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.'
Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on
upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from
the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family." Soooo very very sad! Alot!kr%20ps.jpgswayze.jpgps%20dd.jpgPatrick sung "She's like the wind" for Dirty Dancing. It was and still is a classic!!!
My most favorite comedian Bill Hicks died of pancreatic cancer.
It's a swift, painfully cruel kind of cancer. The average life expectancy
of someone diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas is six to nine months
.
Only 4% of patients with pancreatic cancer live more than five years.
Bill died only 6 short months after being diagnosed. He was only 32.I%20love%20Bill%20Hicks%20twice.jpg(Love you, miss you Bill!!!)

For me, this photo of Bart Giamatti and my mom (BCO) was a framed favoritebco%20and%20bartg%20nh%20os.jpgamong many fantastic photos in my parents' house. Growing up, I always
loved this picture. Bart was charming first and foremost, but he was also
famous in New Haven because he was the President of Yale University (he
was, notably, the youngest President of the University in its history) and then,
later, he was the seventh commissioner of Major League Baseball. Years before
his son Paul would be praised and awarded for his stellar acting abilities, Bart
Giamatti courted controversy by boldly and bravely suspending Pete Rose for 30
games after Rose shoved an umpire. He also suspended Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher
Jay Howell, who was caught using pine tar during the National League Championship
Series. (After succeeding Peter Ueberroth as Commissioner in April 1989) Giamatti's
most famous decision once again involved Rose, whom he suspended for life for
gambling. A few weeks later, Giammatti died of a massive heart attack. Undeniably,
Bart died way too young. He was only 51! Yet, still (and thankfully), we are blessed
with his living legacy
in his Oscar-winning son Paul. RIP Bart. You are missed and loved.

of Tom Cruise ranting and raving (and recruiting) for Scientology? It wasn't intended
for nonbelievers, or "spectators" as he so generously calls the likes of you and me.
There are so many (unintentional) gems in this video, I can't help but insist you give
it a view. Yes, it's creepy. But, who doesn't enjoy a good sci-fi thriller occasionally?

UPDATE: Damn! That was fast!
The Scientologists had that sh*t removed with a quickness!
And check this out (source dlisted):

UPDATE: Found it in its entirety here.
