Katy Perry, a rising star/singer outta London, has a very catchy song with
the chorus "I kissed a girl and I liked it!" We noted it the first time we heard it, yes. But
we're singing it tonight after hearing it only for a second time hours ago. Catchy indeed!
"I kissed a girl and I liked it," Perry* proudly proclaims pop-musically. Ha. And, well, yes,
KO, too, has kissed a girl and liked it! Truthfully, we love kissing! And photos are our
favorite form of forever...and KO has kissed a girl on film for fun and loved it! Yay Pop!caf%20ko%20carries%20kiss.jpgAnd even though we are ages above the amusing anecdotes
of simply kissing a girl and liking it, we find it impossible not
to hum along to the song, adoring and admittedly amused by it.
"I kissed a girl and I liked it!" Ha! KO knows & can appreciate kissing!b%20and%20k%20k1.jpgAnd above all else, ultimately, love!

*also, KO loves that she is a K A T Y Katy. Of course!

In the past few weeks KO has been experiencing unusual and intense
fatigue. Then, Sunday we got a stomach cramp that was blindingly painful
for about an hour and consistently brutal since. Ugh and fug. So today KO saw
a nice lady Doctor who, while witness to the abdominal pain~ and worried, to boot,
was unable to tell me what's wrong. KO had to get alot of blood work* at a lab nearbyko%20may608sick.jpgand now...we are waiting. Lady Doctor** gets the results later today, and KO meets with
her again Thursday. The various and sundry speculation from friends has included, but
is not limited to: mono, lyme disease, thyroid issue, anemia. And no, I'm not pregnant.
Hopefully we will have an answer soon! KO plans to run the marathon on Nov. 2nd, turn
32 (ahem 26) on Nov. 4th and be a helpful and healthful maid of honor to Annie in Key
West on Nov. 8th!!! So things best be ok! KO must be in kickass condition! Rar!!!
That's the story. Will keep you posted.

As ever,
KO

**A.M. noted confusion, so KO will clarify: the description re the Lady doctor
was meant to detail that the doctor is also a lady, ehem. She's not a ladydoctor.

isa3.jpg"I loved modeling. I absolutely loved it. I was so happy to get the cover of
Vogue- 23 times. I keep each copy. I made more money as a model than as an
actress or a filmmaker. In monetary terms, beauty pays more than anything."
Isabella Rossellini, NYTmag 4.20.08

KO has always believed in the power of beauty! To read such a "secret" truth
from such a serious/respected beauty...what a bizarre and bewildering satisfaction
and admittedly amusing sensation...We've known for too long the truth in the power
of beauty. We've struggled with such a sad truth to be sure...

Well, to add to the power of such a "thank you for finally just admitting it" comment
by the lovely Isabella, KO has a story about her! KO met Isabella back in 2003 whilst
working on the Merchant Ivory film Heights. We still have the shoes she wore in her
scenes with John Light! Isabella, like KO, wears the rarely found size 9 & 1/2!

Ok, and there's more!

Truth be told, Isabella's quote rings true to a treatment KO wrote back
in film school at UT in Austin called Blows Revisited. A most memorable
quote from my script?
"It's all about being beautiful, that's our only job."
"This coming from a woman who considers herself a professional?"
"Everything you do is, of course, relevant to you, but nothing has more worth
than your looks."
"How can you say that? I'm offended."
"That's because you aren't protected, because you have fewer choices, you have
to struggle, you aren't beautiful
."

Well, it sure seems like a while since I've been here...
Because we are in between casas, we are busier than usual
and the schedule is skewed. It is what it is.

One thing we need to mention: Fat Tuesday/Super Tuesday
I made sure to vote, and I felt empowered and engaged after.
It was an important day, as there was no incumbent running for
the first time in 80 years, and a woman and man of color were on
the Democratic ballot. To boot, Fat Tuesday in New Orleans (one of
our long lost loves it seems these days...sigh) was raging righteously
into...today, Ash Wednesday/first day of Lent...and, delightfully, a day
damp and silver-toned, brisk and beautiful. Happy Humpday you guys.

So many blog-worthy events, and but oh where is the time?
Well, aside from my lack of photog-evidence, there is my lack of
wordy emphasis and expression, elaboration and information...so...
without excuses, let me say this: this weekend is crazy; we are still not
in our new abode; we are working extra hours/days; and we are often w/o
internet connection...but this is not excuse, only explanation...and we are more
than prepared to bombard you once again with our best and better than that to boot...

ko%20pinhole%20train%20tx.jpgWhen I was in film school at UT, I finagled my way into a photography
class reserved for photog majors...Actually, my love for film was based
on and in my love for photography. It was a blessing and a privilege to
study and practice photography with UT's Dennis Darling. And one of my
favorite and most intense and fulfilling projects was our pinhole camera
assignment. Most of D2's students turned in 2 or 3 pictures for evaluation.
KO, on the other hand, had created (literally) more than a dozen pinhole
cameras and (therefore) had more than half a dozen pinhole gems to give
to D2 for appraisal. Well, so...I created this shot! I was riding my bike (my
only mode of transport whilst living in Austin) with various pinhole cameras
in my bag when I saw the freight train crossing the bridge. I sped up, beat the
train, and then stopped and set my smaller-than-a-shoebox-box against a
rock, waiting. To my surprise and surreal glee, the conductor actually saw me,
stopped his train and waved! It may be hard to see in this scan of the original,
but you can actually see the conductor, hat and waving hand and all! It's a true
testimony to my dedication~ and honestly, my obsession~ with photography.
I am so grateful for (and simultaneously overwhelmed by) the opportunities I
had. I was so passionate and prolific, but I definitely did not comprehend my skills
and so had a hard time capitalizing on my expertise and experiences. Truth be told,
I coulda shoulda woulda been a celebrated photographer were it not for my fear of
being judged. It's silly to admit now, of course, because I had support from so many
amazing people. I guess I just wasn't ready...or maybe I was just terrified of selling
my soul-producing images...Obviously now that I am older and more worldly, I can
see clearly how talented I was (and am) and I can appreciate how perfectly this photo
quite literally sums up all my ability, potential, access, optimism and vision. Perfection!ko%20pinhole%20train%20tx%20psdf.jpgPinhole Perfection, Austin, TX, KO/00

We've been so busy, as certainly you all have been...and we're working
our mega-double (10:30am-12midnight) tomorrow at Modern, so we're
hoping this brief but brilliant (ha! yes! go Bean!) post will satiate those of
you still stopping by katyoliver.co for a looksy.

First, a list (we love lists!) of the things we need to tell you about~ and will
therefore elaborate on soon alot but not soon enough~ in no particular order
but numbered nonetheless:
1: Maxie's Birthday Post! Our beloved Mama and Daddy deserves a truly great
tribute. Her birthday, the day before the baby Jesus' is a big beautiful deal to us.
We so adore Maxie and are determined to do a righteous post for her. Of course.
2: The full coverage, details and photos from the hardcore Hatebreed show
Sunday night at Toad's
must be honored. We rocked solo, and then went back-
stage and got the golden gift of photos with old friend/lead singer Jamey Jasta!

3: Marta and Ava's visit! AliBabba's baby boy Aidan was born! Ace is having a boy!
4: Christmas and all that oh-so-festive-and-familial day included.
5: Spodick's SOW/BOW reunion party last Saturday night! It's always a privilege
to spend time with our oldest of old school friends, including Jon, Jules, Otis & Dan!
6: The Rangers game at MSG Wednesday. My favorite player, Chris Drury scored a
crucial and game-shifting goal.
Our seats were absolutely amazing. LiLo was in the
crowd. We got a new (Drury) hat, and the Rangers won 4-2. Then! We met up with
Maxie afterwards
for a fleeting few hours of fabulousness.
We felt so blessed.
7: We got 2 new pairs of Uggs!
8: Matt Lum, our bf and tech-savvy soulmate celebrated his birthday on the 22nd!
9: The red-headed brother (Trick) came east for the holidays. We met his great-alot
galpal Pepper
(who just so happens to share my Scorpio birthday of Nov. 4th)! Yay!
10: Our favorite things and experiences and lessons from 2007.
11: Our choicest highlights from this site and our favorite blogs in 2007.
12: A really ripping compilation of our top ten photos (by KO) of 2007!

Excited yet?!

Thanks for your continued love and support. KO needs and appreciates it!
Always! Alot! We are way excited to elaborate on all these great moments from
the KnockOut Life and we can't wait to share the various and sundry other musings
from the mind of a crafty (if occasionally crazy) artist living life with heart and soul!

Peace and Love,
Light and Laughter,
As Ever,

ko%20wackcarride.jpgWhat happened to my knockout life???
We are not sure, but we know this can't be
"all there is" and we're feeling a bit panicked!!!
We are currently working for almost no money,
in debt and...while we are way inspired by the kids
in the after school program (where we are teaching an
art class) we are way worried, wondering: What's next?!
We thought New Haven would hold the key, but we are now
nervous about the next step, the near future, the new world
we've wandered into. We are working and we are loving and we
are living, but we want...more....We need...more...and we know it's
up to us to make things worthy...Still, we miss LA, we miss NYC, and
we miss our friends and the feeling that we are destined for all things
wonderful.
Yes, yes, woe is we. Ha. But, um, er, yes, truly, whoa indeed.ko%20rideback.jpg

"Backwards planning ahead in straight forward action."
John Hodgens, The Daily Show

"Success is not no violence." GW Bush

Today has been such an intense, layered day.
Life is a fragile balance with so many moving parts.
Part of the "point" is accepting what you can't change,
and learning to change the way you react to things...Part
of the "point" is learning to be present and prepared, rather
than wait for a miracle to come to you. So much of life is about
letting go of your ego while embracing and choosing yourself. By
practicing the process of being the person you want to be, you learn
that it's empowering to know what you know but even more empowering
to stretch to build and challenge yourself to be fearless in moments of doubt
about what you don't know. Comparing is not about where you fail, about what
you lack, comparing is about being willing to be flawed but work to grow. I see what
my friends, my peers, my family, my role models, my fellow human beings have and
rather than focus on their perceived worth, I focus on how we each empower one
another. Our strengths together are far more powerful and epic. We are always ready,
but noone brings their "A" game everyday. Nothing is set in stone. The only thing you
can be sure of, as my 6th grade social studies teacher used to say, is "taxes and
death...and even taxes aren't definite" aka they have some wiggle room. Every cliche is
a cliche for a reason: We are all flesh and blood. A stitch in time does save nine! When
you sow the seeds of love you get a sustainable garden. When you squander your seeds
you reap weeds. When you put in the work, when you are mindful~ YOU MAY NOT GET
WHAT YOU WANT, YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU NEED. "This too shall pass." The grass
is always greener. You can have it all...as soon as you decide what "all" means to you
and commit. Nothing in life is free, and life is not fair. I always say, the lesson I learned
from the story of Jesus has nothing to do with any one person being "holier than thou"
or sacrificing "more" or "less." The lesson for me is: Everyone has their cross to bear.
Sure Jesus was the son of God, but the more he knew the larger his capacity for pain,
sorrow and sadness. Sure, he had a guarantee in the afterlife, but what about knowing
his destiny?! The real miracle for anyone of us is the power of the moving parts. "Stop
the world, I want to get off." Ha! The world keeps turning whether you are honest and
real and present and your best self or not. And some aspect of your life must always
suffer, that's the humbling yet hopeful, humorous yet horrific thing. If you are rich, you
may be morally or spiritually or consciously bankrupt. If you are poor, you may have a
profound wealth of family and community but struggle to eat healthy food. Perhaps
you are poor, and you have an unconventional support system. Perhaps you punish
yourself with sabotage, saying you are unworthy and using any means you can to
escape. You were betrayed? Look at every great story through the ages. The only way
to move forward is to forgive yourself for mistakes made with misinformation, and
be willing to forgive those who love you but may have hurt you. They are human too
and ultimately, they are not you. The sooner you acknowledge and highlight the total
you, the "shame" and "guilt" and "denial" the sooner you realize every feeling is a flag.
See it, work it out, but always keep going. You will find that either way, the world
keeps going. You are here. As soon as you figure out where you are, you have power.
As soon as you are empowered, you can make choices. There will always be pain, but
pain puts pleasure in perspective. Don't make life any harder than it already is. Be
proud of who you are and honest with yourself. Obstacles are what you see when you
take your eyes off the goal! You are limited only by the scope of your own ambition!
No one is perfect. It's always night time somewhere! Heaven is a state of mind.

"They don't know when the war will end- and if it will end." -CNN correspondent

Uh, er, ummm, it's been going on forever,
it will never stop. There is no end because
there is no beginning. The more you know, though,
the more it hurts...And yes, it helps if you have
someone to shove, but it honors you to have someone
to love. Everyone craves a value system.
A victory, however, is illusory.
Just try to let go...Practice YOU.

***************************************************

ps Did you see the Red Sox recover and conquer???!!!
Yes, the symbolic victories can be just as sweet!
Happy Birthday again, Ace! Way to witness the win!

We've been flashing back recently~ not so much here, but in our mind~
and especially after seeing Soul Asylum on the Green, we just couldn't not
get nostalgic for the Screaming Trees. We love lead singer Mark Lanegan
alot.
We met him at the tender age of 15, and hung out in his hotel room (but hey,
